About Us

Wigan STEAM is an independent community arts organisation working in Wigan and the surrounding areas. We believe that creativity and culture are a powerful force for change, and that access to the right opportunities to experience it can improve lives.  We provide our community with a safe, inclusive space to access creative and cultural experiences, to enable them to lead rich, fulfilling and empowered lives.

Community Engagement

Community engagement is at the heart of everything we do. We provide opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in meaningful creative and cultural activity. We run a regular programme of events such as Mini Makers, Pottery Night and Young Makers. To find out about and book on to our events visit our Events page.  We also deliver creative projects in collaboration with artists. To stay up to date with news on opportunities to get involved with upcoming projects visit our News page and follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

Artist Development

We provide artists with regular, well-paid opportunities for professional development, with a specific focus on supporting artists to engage with their local communities. Now in it's fourth year, our artist development programme aims to nurture the artist community in Greater Manchester, through a programme of paid residencies, commissions, workshop facilitation opportunities and free access to equipment and workshop space. To stay up to date with news on opportunities, visit our News page and follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Any opportunities will also be advertised on Arts Jobs as well as here on our website. If you're an artist interested in our work, please don't hesitate in introducing yourself, we love meeting new practitioners.

Community Workshop

Our open-access Community Workshop makes facilities such as a kiln, laser cutter, sewing machines available to the local community for a low cost, and provides individuals with a space to socialise and get inspired. Once individuals have undergone an induction, they are welcome to book to use the facilitates as often as they'd like. To find out more about how you can make use of the facilities, please visit our Community Workshop page.

We work with education settings to provide students and teachers with creative, inspiring and empowering learning opportunities that are aligned with the current curriculum and Ofsted framework. We are an Arts Award Centre and Supporter, and an Artsmark partner. To find out more about our offer for schools and other education settings visit our Education page.
