We’re excited to announce that we’re launching a new project in 2020 thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund. Make It is a twelve month program of creative workshops, making projects, and exhibitions designed to bring people together and build the creative community in Wigan.
To launch the project, we’re holding an open exhibition in our gallery, in order to showcase the wide range of creative talent and craftsmanship that Wigan beholds. Applications are welcomed from artists and makers who are at any stage of their career - this includes hobbyists, students, and children. It’ll be an eclectic display of what the most creative of Wigan’s residents past and present have to offer.
When will the Exhibition be?
The exhibition will be held in our gallery from Saturday 25th January - Saturday 14th March. There will be a launch event on the evening of Friday 24th January, 6.30pm - 8.30pm.
Who can submit?
Entries are limited to artists who either live in Wigan Borough currently, or who have lived in Wigan Borough within the last five years.
What can I submit?
Artists may submit one or two works in any medium, including but not limited to: drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, textile, video, sculpture, 3D printing, woodwork, spoken word or performance, and digital/mixed media. The artwork must have been produced within the last two years.
Due to space limitations entries must not be larger than 50cm2 if two-dimensional, and 50cm3 if three-dimensional.

How are artworks selected?
Due to space limitations we are unable to accept every entry. Entries will be judged by a panel made up of members of the Wigan STEAM team, a number of our Young Makers, one of our STEAM Shed members, and a member of a community group that we work with.
What happens if my artwork is selected?
If selected, artworks will be required to be dropped off on one of these days:
Thursday 9th January 10am - 4pm
Tuesday 14th January 10am - 4pm
Artworks should be ready to hang - either framed with mirror plates attached, or unframed with alternative fixings such as magnets or clips. Clip frames are not accepted. For selected artworks that are three-dimensional, we will discuss display options with you prior to the work being delivered to us.
Artworks should also be clearly labelled with the title, artist, telephone number and email address.
When the exhibition is over artists will be required to collect their work on one of these days:
Thursday 19th March 10am - 4pm
Saturday 21st March 10.30am - 3pm
Is my artwork insured?
Please note that Wigan STEAM will not insure selected artwork. It is your responsibility to insure artwork if you wish to do so.
