Seedling is a participatory arts project that aims to improve the mental health and wellbeing of people in our local communities.

To achieve this, we're encouraging people to make the most of their immediate surroundings, reconnect with nature and get creative in the process.

Using the Five Ways to Wellbeing, the project aims to inspire you to get active, connect, give, take notice, and learn, through a series of online artist-led workshops and events.

We've set up a Facebook group so that everybody who takes part in the project can share their makes and socialise. Just click here or search 'Wigan STEAM Seedling' on Facebook and request to join.

On this page are a collection of pre-recorded videos led by artists, makers, and other facilitators which will encourage you to reconnect with your surroundings and get creative with nature.

Before you get started, you'll need to watch our video on foraging, so that you know how to stay safe whilst collecting natural materials.

Make sure you check back as we'll be adding new videos and activities regularly!

Do you have a Seedling Activity Box?

Watch the video below to find out about the materials in your box, and the activities you'll be able to do with them.

Some of the Seedling activities require you to find natural materials such as grasses, flowers and leaves. Watch our short video below on safe and ethical foraging before you begin.

We've prepared a series of videos for you that will encourage you to get creative with nature. They're fun no matter your age and all use materials that you can easily find either in your house/garden or at your local supermarket. If you've received a Seedling Activity Box, you'll have everything you need to do all of the below activities.

Make sure you let us know you've taken part and tag us in your photos @wigansteam #seedlingwigan

Use the buttons below to navigate to the videos that interest you most, or scroll down to browse them all.

Alongside the activities we've prepared, we're also working with some wonderful artists and facilitators whose practice relates to nature. Our 'Explore Nature With...' series will present lots of ways that you can connect with your surroundings in a meaningful and mindful way.
